My name is Mariah Murray, I am currently a Master’s of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology student. I completed my undergraduate studies in Chemistry and Public Health. I am currently in the process of applying to medical school and I aspire to become a physician. In the future, I aspire to help underrepresented students pursue careers in Medicine by providing academic resources to spark their interest in science and math at an early academic age.
In my free time, I love hiking, attending fitness classes, and playing the saxophone! I also enjoy reading mystery novels and photography. I am currently well versed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and various levels of Mathematics including Statistics. I have experience serving as a tutor for General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Statistics. Also, I am currently a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate courses and have learned how to tailor teaching styles to each student differently. I like to focus on building the students’ confidence in the subject matter, by starting on easier questions that we can arrive at the answer together, and use this knowledge to build to tackling the harder questions. I think that it is important that every student feels comfortable asking questions, and understands there is no “bad question”. Also, it is important that students feel comfortable enough with the tutor to express what they do not know or understand honestly. Uniquely as a tutor, I have the trait of recently completing a number of courses in the subject matters listed, which have provided an understanding of how it feels to be encountering tough material for the first time. As a student and a tutor, I wholeheartedly understand how to teach topics and information so that they are relatable to someone who is seeing the information for the first time. I know how to take topics and break them down into simpler terms for beginners which has proven to be very helpful for my students in the past when learning challenging subject matter. I look forward to possibly working with you in the future! Thank you!
